About the author: John Andrews is an SEO consultant in Seattle, Washington and the lead search marketing strategist at UpperLeftPlacement.com

Trophy Phrase marketing… chasing that “trophy phrase” in the search rankings.. the SEO achievement you will be proud to never talk about with your professional peers. It can be compared to hunting, where trophies are the proof of achievement.

“Score it! Score it!”

Which is a more powerful accomplishment? “Harvesting” an aged, ready-to-be-pruned grandfather mammal by blasting a pair of 550 grain XX bullets through their shoulder blades at 70 yards, or ranking top 3 for a Trophy SEO Phrase in Google? Let’s compare….

These guys earned themselves TROPHIES!

These guys look mighty proud standing over their “kill”. And they should be. They deployed state of the art hunting technology to take down those mighty beasts. Ignoring the ridiculous “ranch” gate they are smiling under, and the fact that these beasts were (at least in the challenge department) slightly shy of the stature of say, a charging wild prairie gopher in Wisconsin, we can understand their glee. They did it. They killed something way bigger than they are, easily. No doubt their will be trophies made from those heads.

But what of the Mighty SEO? The above real-life example of human prowess could probably be compared to going after the target search phrase “boot bottom scraping Sioux Falls“. An accomplishment, for sure. But worthy?

Trophy Phrase Marketing is about real trophies. Going after what really matters, and doing so not for some trophy but for the personal satisfaction of knowing you outwitted the beast that is your competition, which often includes the search engine. Unless you can hang something like this on the wall of your den, you’ve got nothing over the SEO hunters.
